I attended the Mediahub virtual office tour for the Los Angeles office on Friday October 23, so I decided to choose to research them more for this agency immersion post. Mediahub is one of the 5 branch organized agencies under MullenLowe Group advertising network. Mediahub itself has 3 main branches within the US, with them being in the locations of Boston, New York, and Los Angeles. Boston is where Mediahub’s HQ is and is where it is mainly managed. The Mediahub that held the virtual zoom tour was the office location for Los Angeles in El Segundo. Looking back on it, I am pretty sure I have seen them before while in El Segundo a couple times during my life because my family and I have always lived in Manhattan Beach, the neighboring town of El Segundo. In terms of the event itself, I liked how one-on-one it was and we got to ask the participants individually more questions about their career experiences in general and more specifically, with Mediahub. For sake of the participants’ own confidentiality, I am not going to list the names of those who spoke with us (as I did not ask for their permission unfortunately), but I will now go into detail about what they have said about Mediahub. The general consensus is that they all love working for Mediahub because it feels like a family and their work feels like it had a relevant impact on the community. One of them mentioned how the planning of campaigns and then seeing them on the news really gives him a validation for the appreciation of his work. One of the female participants mentioned how she feels like she has a voice at Mediahub compared to other companies she has worked for. Another man, who identified as being gay, stated that he has found his own small gay community at the company and it makes him feel safe and happy. The third person also mentioned how in general, Mediahub is a cool place to work at. Not just in terms of the work, but also the workplace and its aesthetic as well. Because the LA office is one of the smaller branches of Mediahub, there is a sense of closeness and familiarity between the workers similar to that of a start-up. In addition, Mediahub has a very modern LA office, making it a fun place to work in (similar to Google). I was a bit surprised to be honest that I was the only content-creation person from M-school at the event, and it made me realize how this is not something that I would want to do. The campaigns they do at Mediahub are focused on a success rate based on analytics. There was minimal creativity in my opinion, and honestly, it worried me if all advertising agencies are like Mediahub. I appreciated the vibe of the company overall, but I do not think I can be super passionate about advertising for user search history as I could for something related to storytelling and general creativity for advertising. I am glad I went though to learn more about advertising agencies in general, but I will make sure that the next event I go to is more content-creation related.
